Mission

The US-Taiwan Business Council works closely with our member companies in the defense, aerospace, and national security sectors on issues that influence the bilateral business environment. The Council serves our member companies by providing tactical and strategic advice, identifying key decision-makers, and keeping members up to date on all significant defense and military developments in Taiwan. Our defense members are included in all our sector-specific work, including at conferences/events and our annual defense-specific delegations to Taiwan. We also provide advocacy services in support of efforts by our Chairman’s Circle members to secure new business opportunities.

For Taiwan, weapons and defense services procurement is a complex and lengthy process involving various private and government entities. One of the Council’s greatest strengths lies in having direct access at the highest levels of those entities, including the Defense Mission of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in the U.S., with the Taiwan Ministry of National Defense and its Armaments Bureau, as well as within the Office of the President, the Executive Yuan (Cabinet), and the Legislative Yuan (Parliament). USTBC also has extensive contacts within the indigenous Taiwan defense sector.

The arms sales and procurement process is just as complex on the U.S. side, where the Department of Defense, Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the American Institute in Taiwan, and the Department of State all play key roles. The Council also interacts closely with these entities, providing our member companies with a unique channel of communication on all Taiwan defense and security matters.
