The United States Air Force (USAF) is the aerial warfare branch of the U.S. military and one of the seven American uniformed services. Originally part of the U.S. Army, the USAF was made a separate branch of the U.S. Armed Forces under the National Security Act of 1947. Its core functions include Air Superiority, Nuclear Deterrence Operations, Global Precision Attack, Cyberspace Superiority, and Personnel Recovery.
